Supplementing BCAA For Woman ,like me!

First of everything, hello! I’ve been busy with some personal goals and family so it really took me so long to drop some lines in my blog.

Today i want to share you why i recommend BCAA for my female clients and why i personally love it.

First of all, if you have read my previous posts on how hard it was for me to gain weights, BCAA helped me so much back in the days i took personal training session. My PT recommended it, and she told me how it helps to nourish my muscles and to help sustaining my muscles during and after workout. I personally not a big fan of Fitness Supplement, because remembering my health history, i was not sure on how it will impact my body systems.

What is BCAA?

Branch Chained Amino Acids…

That’s what it stands for. But that’s a mouthful so we’ll stick to BCAAs or amino acids for short.

Usually consumed in the form of a powder which is added to water to create a translucent liquid, gym-goers can be seen downing BCAAs pre-, during and post-workouts, and also sipping throughout the day. Even during your OFF Training day, you can still consume it to helps your muscle recover and sustain it.

But what are they for? And do you really need them?

Three of the nine essential amino acids are called branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). These are leucine, isoleucine and valine. They account for approximately 35% of essential amino acids in muscle proteins.

Amino Acids

Proteins are made from long strings of molecules called amino acids.

Amino acids do various things:

  • Build cells and repair tissue
  • Create energy
  • Form antibodies
  • Take part in the enzyme and hormonal system
  • Build RNA and DNA
  • Carry oxygen throughout the body

Amino acids are needed to build muscle, red blood cells, and hundreds of other molecules. The human body can produce all but nine of these, which you have to get through your diet or supplementation. You can get them from eating protein or taking amino acid supplements.

The group of nine aminos the body can’t produce are called essential amino acids. These include isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, histidine, and valine.

BCAAs can be oxidised in skeletal muscle, whereas other essential amino acids are catabolised (broken down) mainly in the liver.

Exercise greatly increases energy expenditure and promotes oxidation of BCAAs in the muscles, therefore supplementation can be helpful for those who wish to maintain or increase muscle mass.

The branched-chain amino acid, leucine, is particularly special as it has been shown that when taken orally, it promotes muscle protein-synthesis (creation of muscle protein).

What are BCAAs supposed to do?

The idea behind BCAAs is that they will help build muscle, prolong exercise capacity and spike muscle protein synthesis (due to the leucine in particular).

Branched-chain amino acids are rapidly depleted from the muscles when training. Taking them pre-workout and/or during your session can delay fatigue. Taking them post-workout, or with a post-workout meal, will lower muscle damage and feed the muscles faster to keep you in an anabolic state.

Many fitness fanatics swear (this include myself) by BCAAs, sipping them throughout the day, during workouts and after a heavy gym session.

BCAA over Protein?

BCAAs are made up of three of the nine essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine – they account for approximately 35 per cent of essential amino acids in muscle protein. How much can six weeks of weight training change your body?

“Protein itself is made up of around 20-22 amino acids, nine of which are classed as ‘essential’ because we can’t make them in the body,” MyProtein registered nutritionist Jenny Blow explained to The Independent.

“We therefore need to get these nine amino acids from protein sources in the diet. We can make the non-essential amino acids in the body. BCAAs can be broken down in muscle, whereas the other essential amino acids are broken down mainly in the liver.”

Whilst protein shakes are made to be consumed post workout to help repair muscle fibres, BCAAs can be consumed throughout the day to give your muscles a constant supply of amino acids.

BCAAs are useful because they contain no carbohydrates or fats, unlike protein shakes: “So if you’re on a calorie deficit or fat loss plan and you want to increase lean muscle mass, you can boost your essential amino acid intake with no extra added calories.”

What Brand should i choose?

I currently drink bpi BCAA,  before that i use FITMISS by Muscle Pharm BCAA

but as for my read, EXTEND BCAA by SCIVIATION is by far a very popular brand and sold out really fast. It is mainly because it contains more in 1 serving than other brand. Extend has 7g BCAA and BPI Has only 5 g per serving. With a Plus Scivation Xtend has a higher BCAA content and immunity-boosting glutamine. It’s not just more effective for workouts—it will also protect your body!

But, again, it is completely up to you and your BUDGET of course. I’m happy with Bpi for now:)

IS it REALLY WORK?

to me Yes, i’ve been training harder than i’ve ever done before for the past 2 weeks.  my body recovers really well, i do still experience soreness, but my sleeping quality is never been better. On A Plus side, my size is dropping while maintaining my weight. In the name of weight lift, we transformed the extra fats to muscles. I have experienced less soreness, more energy, more strength by the next training.

Plant Based or Vegan?

Kalau akhir- akhir ini dengar berbagai topik diet, pasti pernah kebaca atau dengar perihal Vegan – Vegetarian – Plant Based.

Tidak jarang juga, banyak yang menyangka aku ini vegan. Tapi ada juga yang menyangka demikian, menyebutnya vegetarian. Tapi sebenarnya, kenapa sih ko penting banget dibahas ni di BLOG aku?

Sempat beberapa kali aku menyebut soal Plant Based Diet, sebut saja seperti itu meskipun aku sedang tidak menganut diet apapun. Sementara, ada beberapa temanku yang memang sudah menyatakan dirinya seorang VEGAN, which is to me memang lumrah banget sih. Hanya mungkin belum lumrah di masyarakat ya.

Apa bedanya Plant Based dengan Vegan dan Vegetarian?

PLANT BASED

Untuk orang yang menjalani Plant Based Wholefood, disini kita hanya focus mengkonsumsi pangan yang berasal dari tumbuh tumbuhan. Ya sayur, ya kacang kacangan, juga buah buahan. Semua yang ditanam. Konsumsinya pun diupayakan minim proses. Tapi ga harus mentah. Jadi maksudnya perbanyakan kukusan, rebusan, lalapan juga termasuk plant based loh:) Nah bedanya dengan VEGAN, di Plant Based, tidak berlaku untuk penggunaan minyak goreng, tepung-tepungan dan gula proses sampai table salt ya.

Produk hewani seperti susu sapi, daging – dagingan, keju olahan  dan telur, tidak termasuk dalam konsumsi plant based ini. Nah, untuk beberapa produk makanan berlabel VEGAN- VEGETARIAN, itupun tidak termasuk dalam meal seorang PLANT BASED ya. Dalam arti, OREO kan VEGAN (yes, OREO is VEGAN)….tapi Plant Based People juga menghindari ini, karena tidak tergolong non-processed food.

Diluar pangan, PLANT BASED diet tidak sepenuhnya menghindari pemakaian produk hewan untuk skin care, baju, ataupun aksesoris aksesoris. Hanya terfokus pada apa yang dikonsumsi, bentuknya adalah murni NABATI.

 

Vegan

Veganism adalah suatu kepercayaan seseorang yang sangat mencintai dan menghargai kehidupan hewan hewan. Veganism, adalah gaya hidup yang tidak hanya dijalani dari segi pangan, tapi juga bahan bahan yang dipakai sehari hari. Vegan menghindari semua jenis produk apapun yang diuji ke hewan, mengandung ekstrak hewani (madu, kaldu, gelatin, cream wajah etc) sampai ke kemasan dan pakaian. Sutera, woll, mantel bulu , semua termasuk hal yang tidak disentuh oleh seorang VEGAN.

Untuk segi pangan, VEGAN masih bisa mengkonsumsi produk olahan atau kemasan yang berlabel VEGAN. Bukan VEGETARIAN ya. VEGAN.

 

Vegetarian

Sebenarnya, VEGAN itu adalah bentuk Vegetarian yang EKSTRIM. Vegetarian banyak macamnya lagi termasuk VEGAN. Vegetarian juga tidak mengkonsumsi daging, namun ada beberapa kelompok Vegetarian, yang non daging tapi masih mengkonsumsi Telur dan Susu. Ada juga yang tidak mengkonsumsi daging merah namun mengkonsumsi Ikan.

  • Lacto Ovo Vegetarian : Vegetarian yang menghindari semua bentuk daging hewan, tapi mengkonsumsi produk olahan susu dan telur.
  • Lacto Vegetarians : Vegetarian yang menghindari daging dan telur, tapi masih mengkonsumsi produk olahan susu.
  • Ovo Vegetarian : Menghindari semua bentuk daging dan susu tapi mengkonsumsi TELUR
  • VEGAN : Tidak sama sekali mengkonsumsi produk hewani maupun menggunakan produk yang mengandung ekstrak hewani.

Bagi orang yang tidak mengkonsumsi daging tapi masih mengkonsumsi produk dari laut, yakni ikan, seafood dan sebagainya disebut sebagai Pescatarians.

 

Apa yang aku coba jalani di Bulan January lalu adalah Plant Based, dimana saya berusaha mengurangi konsumsi olahan dan menghindari daging. Intensinya bukan untuk diet, tapi mereset system tubuh saya juga. Karena aku termasuk orang yang memiliki banyak alergi. Sulit tidak menjalani? Sulit, karena suami dan anak masih mengkonsumsi produk hewani. Lemas ga karena ga makan daging? TIDAK. Sama sekali tidak. Karena konsumsi sayur aku banyak banget per-porsinya. Dan itu sangat membantu metabolisme banget. Pencernaan lebih lancar lagi, badan enteng tapi tidak lemas. Tidur aku lebih baik. Kalau ditanya orang apakah aku Vegan atau adakah menuju Vegan, aku ga kepikiran. Yang utama sekarang adalah membangun kebiasaanku untuk focus ke pure food yang berasal dari tumbuhan. Aku pun juga kadang ga sanggup nelen kalau ingat darimana asal daging itu.

Aku menulis ini, semoga pembaca bisa menelaah kembali gaya hidup sekitar. Bisa membedakan, bisa mendukung., dan siapa tau, bisa ikut menjalani dan menjadi sosok yang lebih bugar lagi ya.

Workout with Make Up – Tips

Everyone wants to look good during workout. Well, i’m obviously one of them.

Pernah suatu kali, sewaktu sedang bersiap diri mau mengajar BodyJam™ , ada seorang member bertanya.

“Kok mau olahraga make up -an mba?” saya pikir sudah selesai.

Aku sih santai aja ya menanggapinya, saking sudah sering banget nih ditanya. Jawabannya hanya, iya karena saya mengajar bu:)

Buat aku yang memang bidangnya tampil di hadapan lebih dari satu orang, penampilan itu penting sekali dijaga. Sebenarnya juga, sudah terbiasa aja sekarang – sekarang ini untuk pakai casual make up anywhere apalagi kalau mau ngajar ya.

Pentingnya apa?

Disaat aku mengajar, aku yang memberi arahan, aku member contoh dan instruksi. DI saat ini pun, sudah jelas, bahwa role ku kurang lebih sama seperti Pembicara, Dosen, Guru atau apalah yang berdiri di atas stage dilihat banyak orang. Nah, sudah sepatutnya dong, kita memoles dikit wajah dan rambut. Tidak perlu menor juga seperti pengantin tapi ya. Hanya sekedar terlihat segar.

Contoh lain, ada nih temen suka lari. Dia suka marathon. Dan biasanya, kalau ajang ajang lari itu, banyak photographer yang rajin ambil photo kita di garis finish. Yang pasti nantinya di posting di akun penyelenggara toh. Dia maunya mukanya kece, okelah lepek tapi kan ga kucel ya. Nah untuk penilaian kece, cantik, kumel apa tidak, itu kembali ke pribadi masing masing sih. Tapi kalau untuk saya, ga mau. I just want to look decent.

Lantas, apakah olahraga menggunakan make up itu bikin jerawatan?

Tidak selalu sih, tergantung juga produk apa yang kita pakai, dan apakah kita jeli membersihkan wajah selepas latihan.

Hal hal yang perlu diperhatikan adalah, penggunaan bahan make up tersebut sebaiknya water base, ringan dan kalau sedang outdoor sebaiknya mengandung SPF untuk melindungi wajah dari paparan sinar matahari yang bisa berbahaya bagi kulit.

Dan juga, make up ini diharapkan tidak menyumbat pori pori sewaktu kita berkeringat.

Sebenarnya jujur, menurutku mudah dan tidak harus membeli produk harga mahal ya untuk mendukung aktifitas olahraga cantik kita. Berikut aku share tipsnya

  1. Face Wash : Sebelum Latihan, biasakan membersihkan wajah dengan sangat seksama. Aku suka sekali cuci muka pakai produk Yves Rocher yang Sebo Vegetal atau Novage True Perfection. Bahan dasar keduanya adalah GEL. After effect nya, wajah jadi lembab dan tidak kering.
  2. Moist : Next step selepas membersihkan muka, biasanya saya semprotkan face mist. Untuk melembapkan muka, dan yang pasti face moist sejauh ini tidak menyumbat pori pori. Karena memang bahan dasarnya adalah AIR. Face moist ini juga tidak menyebabkan muka berminyak, malah sebaliknya, aku berasa kenyal lembab aja. Produk yang aku pernah pakai antara lain Kangen Water Beauty, Evian Face Mist, Feliz Spring Water. Tips lain, pakai air mineral biasa juga sudah cukup kok:)
  3. Draw the face using all matte finish products : Mulai dari pencil alis, lipstick dan blush on. Aku hanya pakai ketiga macam itu saja untuk “hias” wajah. Kenapa? Karena make up untuk olahraga memang hanya untuk mempertegas bentuk wajah, dan supaya terlihat fresh. Kecuali harus tampil untuk nari misalkan, silahkan deh pakai eyeshadow.
    • Untuk pencil alis, aku pakai Viva atau Oriflame Eyebrow Marker. FYI, Aku sempat dikasih trial satu eyebrow crayon yang ok banget, tapi sayang belum bisa aku posting di blog karena belum di launch produknya. Viva sendiri kadang berminyak hasilnya, tapi selepas aku lukis alis, aku tap sedikit dengan compact powder. Jadi hasilnya matte. Kalau Oriflame Eyebrow Marker hasilnya semi sweat proof ya, hanya kurang tebal kalau tidak dilukis dengan pensil alis dulu.
    • Eyeliner pake nggak? Terserah ya, boleh pakai kok. Tipsnya pakai yang gel dan waterproof. Karena kalau tidak, pas lagi cardio dan berkeringat , bisa jadi mata panda kan nggak seru ya. Tips juga untuk lukis yang natural yah. Sebatas Cat Eye cukup. Sejauh ini Eye Liner yang cukup oke adalah merek Silky Girl. Aku suka banget teksturnya. Sayangnya, si packaging aga ribet. Moga moga mereka improve ya dari segi packaging.
    • Cream Blush On is a must. Karena bentuknya creamy, hasil akhirnya blending banget ke kulit, hasilnya jadi seperti natural. Merona saja. Merek yang aku suka adalah Maybelline dan THE FACE .
    • EYELASH : Sejauh ini, jujur saja, Eyelash Extension itu memang ok banget untuk performing. Sayang saja, sudah beberapa kali jadi korban alergi lemnya dan si bulu asli ikut rontok. Jadinya malah botak deh. Jadi solusiku pakai Waterproof Mascara aja. Aku pakai Maybelline The Falsies Volume dan Magnum Barbie . Try both, and im really happy with the result.
    • Non Transferrable Lipstick is a must, why why why. Kalau kita berkeringat, pastinya ga mau belepotan kan kemana mana. Produk yang sekarang lagi aku pakai dan senengin banget adalah si MOOD MATCHER by FRAN WILSON. Setelah sebelumnya pakai Kailijumei, aku agak agak concern dengan efek bibir keringnya nih. Mood Matcher by far oke banget dan tidak ada efek bibir pecah pecah, warnanya pun tahan lama banget. 12 jam. Harganya aja sih aga lumayan, for for me, kalau pakainya berbulan bulan, yang worth deh.91uwa-OgRGL
    • Lastly, jika menginginkan wajah terlihat lebih fresh lagi, bisa menggunakan loose powder tipis tipis. Saranku pakai yang warnanya putih seperti bedak bayi. Kalau harus, aku memakai CC Cream by Mineral Botanica saja, karena teksturnya ringan sekali, nyaris tidak medok ya warnanya dan tidak terlihat cakey seperti foundation atau two way cake powder.

 

After you’ve finish with the whole make up, please make sure to use deodorant (eh)…karena penting juga loh odor dari tubuh kita yang berkeringat ini kan, suka tidak terkontrol. Saranku pakai yang bahannya natural, hindari yang berbahan aluminium yang bisa menyumbat pori di ketiak serta menggangu hormon. Hindari juga yang mengandung paraben dan triclosan. So thats all busy people!

I recommend you those products but i’m not saying that they all will suits your skin well. Coba aja dahulu ya, dan direview lagi. Sah sah saja kok menggunakan make up saat olahraga, hanya diperhatikan bahan yang digunakan dan pemakaiannya sewajarnya aja.

Frugal Living Indonesian Style

So its no longer a secret, kalau tahun ini saya lalui berusaha sekali dengan mengikuti pola Frugal Living. Aduh, apalagi itu Frugal Living?

Frugal living itu gaya hidup hemat. Ssssiaatt seet sat seeett, sebelum berpikir “Duh, kemana aja…?” ” Yaelah, duit ngapain diirit irit?”

“Bukan gaji lo selangit? (yang ini ni paling gue demen doanya)…

Lalu, buat apa sih pake gaya hidup hemat segala? Emang kekurangan banget?

Kalau mau aku jawab sih, sebenarnya apapun itu, kalau kita tidak bisa merasa cukup dan me-rem semua. Ya pasti akan kurang lah. Tulisan ini saya buat juga bukan soal menghakimi orang lain atau dedek dedek tersayang. Tapi sungguh, ada beberapa hal yang saya sadari di tahun ini, yang dimana saya banyak pelajari dari suami saya.

Suami saya bukan pelit, dia hemat. Ngirit banget. Lalu ga banyak cincong. Simple banget. I mean, for brands…he will never look at it. Not even.

Tapi, semenjak dua tahun belakangan ini, jujur, alhamdulillah rejeki dari pekerjaan ada, dan mencukupi banget untuk rumah tangga. Nah, tetapi ..ada tetapinya ni, pertengahan tahun ini, saya memutuskan untuk meninggalkan beberapa jabatan yang saya pegang, untuk focus urus Haka. Bisa dibaca di postingan saya kenapanya ya Working Mom Tale, Dealing with the Guilt , 

Dan semenjak itu, jumlah penghuni rumah nambah nih. Tadinya kita hanya punya satu ART saja, tapi sekarang berhubung saya kepingin banget mbanya Haka balik, maka saya dan suami ijinkan bawa anaknya yang masih kecil. Dalam hati..;takut, takut ga mencukupi. Tapi, saya juga pengen berkarya dan bekerja. Dan fungsi ada ART itu yang terutama adalah membantu mengawasi Haka disaat saya kerja.

Semenjak itu, otomatis ya, salary sedikit berkurang, namun Puji Tuhan lagi,cicilan mobil saya lunas. Yes, dua mobil memang jujur kalau tidak pinter pinter di maintain, bisa boncos. Tapi saya dan suami sepakat untuk masing masing saja bayarnya. Hanya untuk Rumah dan Haka yang kami saling bantu membantu.

Hidup hemat saya pastinya meliputi semua aspek keseharian. Dan ini pun harus juga dijalani Haka dan ART. Saya percaya bahwa mendidik Haka seperti ini, nantinya akan membuat dia mengerti makna memiliki penghasilan bukan untuk foya foya. Dan hidup sebaiknya cukup.

Lalu bagaimana saya jalanin dan seperti apa sih menghemat itu? Siasatnya gimana? Apakah anak anak dan keluarga lantas harus kelaparan?

  1. Pangan

Untuk kebutuhan makan, saat ini meski ada ART, saya memutuskan untuk catering siang hari dan masak malam hari. Catering perhari untuk 4 orang harganya Rp 37.000,00 itu untuk satu kali makan. Kenapa saya ambil paket 4 kepala tapi isi rumah 5 kepala? Karena porsinya lumayan besar dan isi menunya 3. Jadi lebih sering kelebihan daripada kurang. Malam pun biasanya saya hanya masak satu menu untuk suami saya.

Jadi saya anggarkan Rp. 50.000,- saja perhari. Itu sudah meliputi daging, sayur dan bumbu. Please jangan sinis ko murah banget . Belanja dipasar uang 50.000 bisa bawa berplastik plastik sayur, bumbu dan teman temannya. 
Tips :

  1. Perbanyak sayur selain daging. Selain lebih menyehatkan, sayur itu murah. Seminggu uang yang saya habiskan untuk sayur hanya 100rb. Itu belanja di Pasar Sinpasa Gading Serpong. Pun kesana meski jauh tapi tidak kena ongkos. Kenapa? Karena ke Pasar pas ada jadwal ngajar. Jadi sekalian. 
  2. Belanja banyak, pas lagi ada promo. Rajin rajin cari promo. Di AEON Mall setiap minggu pagi selalu sale. Harganya ga kalah dari pasar. Beli yang banyak, lalu di bekukan. Termasuk daging ya. 
  3. Beli buah yang lokal atau yang memang musim. FYI, masih banyak yang salah duga membeli buah import yang mahal mahal dengan harapan dietnya sehat. Tapi itu justru salah, diet/pola makan baik tidak perlu buah mahal. Buah mahal seperti Red Dragon , Peach, Berries dsb. Buah seperti pepaya, semangka, jeruk, itu kaya manfaat. Dan mampu mencukupi kebutuhan gizi kita kok:)

2. Transport

Hmmm… untuk ini, saya sempet hampir give up sih dengan berkehendak menjual mobil saya. Karena menurut saya dua mobil itu pemborosan. Ini juga ada kaitannya dengan tarif parkir mall tempat kita ngajar yang sekarang naik di Tangerang.

Untuk ini, siasat saya adalah SABAR MENUNGGU dan selalu punya rencana. Sehari hari sudah terbiasa semua di jadwalkan. Makanya jujur, saya bukan type yang suka nongkrong, arisan atau dadakan kongkow. Selain karena pekerjaan, saya dan suami turun tangan sendiri antar jemput Haka sekolah dan les. Jadi soal waktu kita betul betul harus perhitungan. Menghindari telat mengantar, dan telat menjemput.

Jadi sekarang, selepas antar Haka sekolah, bila saya sudah selesai mengajar, saya lebih baik menunggu sambil melakukan pekerjaan lain . Sekolah Haka dekat dengan SMS, tempat saya mengajar, sehingga Tidak bolak balik rumah dan sekolah. Kalaupun tidak ada kelas, saya manfaatkan untuk belanja bulanan ke pasar dan self practise di GYM. Hanya sesekali temu kangen sama teman, itun squeezing time in between.

Bensin + Parkir + Tol

Untuk Bensin, sudah ada takarannya dan waktu mengisi. Selalu di awal minggu. Dan kalau berencana ke Jakarta, saya prefer naik Kereta atau bus. 

So I really place budget for my car everyweek. Sebisa mungkin ga keliling ga jelas, every trip is being counted.

 3. Eating Out – Entertainment ETC

MALL…..Sudah cukup di weekdays. Due to our job yang kebanyakan lokasinya di Mall, and Haka’s KUMON. Jadi at most weekend, saya dan suami sudah cukup gerah sama mall. And i personally not a big fan of the crowds. To me, its stressful. So we love spending time at home. Even tho we want to dine out, it will be only few times a month. Dan daripada dining out, saya lebih prefer masak yang tidak biasa. Masak yang rumit buat suami. Seperti ayam cabe hijau, atau beli makan ke pasar / resto padang yang jadi favorite dia. Or pizza! For Haka. So then we just spend our day at home, away from the crowd and traffic.

For entertainment, i invest on NetFLIX. I mean…who wouldn’t? Bulanannya kurang dari 200rb dan bisa install untuk 4 devices. So yeah! And my husband will be busy with PS3 anyway. 

Tips lagi kalau mau belanja atau hanya window shopping di mall. We should eat at home first. Kenyang di rumah itu wajib, dan bawa botol air putih. Yes! Its always like that and i save us lots.

Subscribe Netflix, Matiin Paket TV Cable yang ga pernah ditonton juga, Banyakin pinjem buku biar ga bosen dirumah, cari hobby baru biar bisa sibuk bermanfaat, beli buku resep gih biar ga jajan melulu.

4. Beauty and Health

We invest ke asuransi cukup besar. Jadi sisanya, kita berusaha menjaga kesehatan dengan makan sehat dan tidak jajan. Kita tidak banyak konsumsi supplemen. Saya dan suami beli protein sebulan sekali dan itu sudah di budget. Dan sisanya, kita rajin olahraga, rajin meeting sama matahari, dan makan sehat.

Untuk saya yang perempuan, i invest on ORIFLAME big time. Saya beli semua dari Oriflame, selain karena saya member, i can also make money out of it. And with, saya ga pernah perlu treatment di salon, atau klinik kecantikan lagi. I seriously NOT. By far, the products iv’e been using at home works well. And i treat my self only with full body massage twice a month. Cost me only Rp. 100.000,- for 2 hours full body massage at home.

I have stopped using LASH EXTENSION due to allergy reaction caused by the glue, so its another cost saving for me. It save me Rp. 700.000,- per month!

Banyak yang berkata, kan enak, lo kerja di GYM. Eits, saya ga selalu punya waktu di GYM. Jadi seperti di post post yang lalu, saya sempat jabarkan bahwa saya selalu ambil kesempatan untuk latihan sendiri dirumah, tanpa perlu alat fitness yang mahal. 5. Social Life

Trust me. We have. It just never been published or rarely. But, we dont have it regularly. We had fun, in our own way. But never cost us millions. Yes we ate at fancy high class hotel resto, but it will never be once a month routine. We have fun in many ways, many frugal ways. Learn to plan your schedule and say no untuk pertemuan yang sebenarnya ga perlu perlu amat. Melepas rindu ga perlu setiap hari, curhat pun bisa pake skype atau Whatsapp call loh

6. Kebutuhan RUMAH

Listrik mahal, air mahal..wah suami saya paling sering ngigetin soal air. Kalau saya jatahnya LISTRIK. Semua mahal bu, mas, dek. Kecuali gratis.

Tipsnya ni

  • daya listrik yang dipakai secukupnya saja. Saya pakai PLN Prabayar. Sebulan jatah saya tentukan maximum Rp.500.000,- tapi saya tidak langsung isi semua. Saya bagi perminggu, Kenapaa? Karena mind set ni, kalau lihat angka banyak, kita cenderung boros. Mikir, ah masih banyak pulsanya. Terutama buat kita yang pakai ART. Emang ga bermaksud buruk, tapi jujur memang mereka boros karena mereka tidak membayar listrik. Jadi saya tekankan untuk mereka, tidak main handphone dan mencharge handphone hanya sekali sehari. Itu juga berlaku buat saya. Saya charge Handphone di tempat kerja, atau kalau sedang menunggu dimana saja yang ada colokan gratis. Powerbank pun saya isi. Sebel ga sama gue yang tricky? Well iy works for me. 
  • Masak nasi sekaligus banyak dan matikan setelah nasi matang. Nyalakan lagi ketika hendak makan. Yah, nyala mati boros dong? Kenyataanya tidak. Malah kalau mau lebih irit lagi, gunakan dandang. Selain lebih enak nasinya, lebih irit listriknya. Yang ini belajar dari mama mertua. No galau rice cooker rusak.
  • Matikan semua colokan wifi router, TV dan elektronik lain ketika rumah kosong dan ketika mau tidur. Kenapa? Karena meskipun TV mati , aliran listrik tetap mengalir kalau tidak dicabut. Jadi coba di unplug sering sering kalau sudah mau tidur.
  • Invest di COCONUT OIL, BAKING SODA , AlCOHOL untuk membersihkan rumah, furniture, dishwash etc. Ini semua bahan natural yang tidak mahal dan bisa dipergunakan untuk apapun loh. Tinggal pinter mixnya, googling DIY Recipe nya ya.

 

7. Clothing

Thanks To REEBOK INTERNATIONAL. We were sponsored every year. Thou my contract is finished, i still have stocks to wear. And other than our sports apparel, we don’t care about brands. I bought many rejected branded items from online stores. Dan kualitasnya bagus. I mean….hari gini, siapa sih yang peduli merek baju kita ya?

Tips : Kalau mau beli baju, perbanyak plain tops in basic colours. So its easy for us to mix and match. Begitu juga dengan dress and shoes.

Masih banyak lagi sebenarnya aspek yang belum saya sharing. Tapi mungkin sebaiknya dipilah pelan pelan ya supaya ga “sumuk”postingan saya ini.

Pada intinya sih, dari semua yang saya share di atas. Tidak ada masalah dengan menghabiskan uang apalagi kalau kita bekerja keras untuk itu. Tulisan ini dibuat supaya mungkin membantu yang butuh tips untuk hidup hemat tanpa tekanan batin ya.

Pintar pintar mengkontrol diri, lebih memprioritaskan apa yang kita butuh untuk hidup sekarang dan kedepan, dibanding kebutuhan sosial. Tentu saya juga reward dirisaya, sesekali beli sesuatu yang mungkin diluar budget atau diluar kepentingan shari hari keluarga. But, i must save for it. Dan kadang, sebelum bertindak saya berpikir lagi . Seberapa perlu saya mengeluarkan uang untuk hal tersebut?

Saya akan share juga perihal tips frugal living spesifik untuk kebutuhan rumah dan perawatan diri. Ditunggu yaa,,,

Merry Christmas!

How i love this time of every year. The vibes, the moments, the joy. oh man, who doesn’t??

But really, Merry Christmas everyone!

And as today, i’d just wanna drop a short sharing how i felt this Christmas.

Always Pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad,and a soul that never loses faith in God

In the country i’m living, we have many cultures and believes unite. Yet, we’re facing many trials, and misjudgment from those who doesn’t understand YET the meaning of Christmas. Please refer to the news about the issues happening in Jakarta.

Conflicts , disagreements, disbelief, are often become one of highlighted issue on the news.

Despite all the wrong ideas of celebrating this moment, at church yesterday, i decided to forgive. Let go. Nothing can go wrong when you fight hatreds with love.

I can’t or we..can’t make people like us by telling them to. Or tell them to agree with us. Or make them believe what we believe. But again, we can always walk the talk. Showing and sharing good vibes of what we believe to others who have the hardest hard. Rock solid brutal bad vibes, we can only face it with calm and peace.

I’m more than blessed, raised in a very colourful family. in Which most of them are moslems and yet we always get together celebrating Eid or Christmas:) Who’s work is that? GOD it is. God united us. With all His love. And that’s matter.

And i think the idea of Christmas is to be with the people you love, be in peace and be the peace. Forgive and let joy drown us into the sea of love.

Why we Run Healthy Habits in our Family and Why You Should Try too?

By now, you must have heard about people are starting to get busy with fitness, diets, superfoods!

I have my feed full of friends doing their workout or start side seeing a job in fitness. Well, it is not a new thing. Being fit should have been our first concern. Many of us have been living the sedentary lifestyle, not to blame the growth of culinary industry and malls full of cake shops here in Jakarta, or must i include…SUBURB. I saw these posts about super foods , vegan, plant based, gluten free. Kids activities, Gym, lots of things.

Meanwhile, in reality, I often see children were busy eating sweets and processed food. More often, junk food.

I highly understand and have no judgment to anyone out there who are still consuming those kind of food. And i honestly still eating it, maybe once a month or two months? For example, McDonalds. But yes, its once of every decades.

My husband is very supportive on my plant based meal and how i prep meals for the family. I prioritise veggies over meat, use spices and i don’t mind buying from the Chinese food restaurant. Yes, Chinese food are pack of veggies, fresh cooked, and taste great. My husband also restrict sausages, fries, nuggets consumption at home or for Haka’s lunch. And i highly respect that.

On how we manage our workout and staying fit is as important as our meal intake.

I workout 3 times a week minimum, and that’s outside of my regular teaching schedules which is 12 hours a week of YOGA. I run, and do lots of bodyweight functional workout. And i divide those activities and slip in to my breaks. As much as i can, i will move. 15 minutes is the minimum time.

 

While my husband , he workouts everyday and leave Saturday or Sunday to rest. But he will never skip it anywhere. Even during our holiday or trip, he would request me to find hotels that has gym in it. Swimming is not a workout for him. So yeah, GYM.

Now what about HAKA?

I have nothing to say, it is hard to keep him still. He runs, around the block, yep! The BLOCK. He play outside a lot, he do yoga with me. And its an everyday thing for him.

So what is exactly the point of this post?

As parents, and a professional, We need to stay fit, not because of our profession as fitness instructor. Well yeah of course that too. But as a parent to Haka, We both want to be a good role model to our family, our son. I do want to grow old looking good. Feeling good. Cause in a day, the things that i must complete, are basically tiring and requires fitness. Even when i was pregnant, i stay active. I chose to. I want to be able running around and play with my son. I have to be fit to be able to take care of my family, which i hope i can continue for a very long time. We want Haka to be able to maintain his healthy routine and grow up as an active and fit adult.

Me and Robin, came from a different health background but most of it…is fatal. My Late Father, died from heart attack. He Was 42. Yet, he was actually a runner, he did lots of marathon. Long run and Traditional Advance Yoga.

My father in law has his own history of diabetes, and that could land to our son. Both of it. Both Genes. So why risk it all by consuming bad food and live a sedentary life?

The best thing i could say about staying fit is just how it feels. How my skin looks, how my body feels, how i smell, and it really helps me with my bowel system and digestion.

There are so many reason for us as parents to stay fit and me as a mom, to run a healthy habits at home

  1. We are setting up a habit that our child can follow, to lead them into a healthier future
  2. Having a healthy lifestyle is actually saving lots of money. Frugal healthy living is so possible with many preparations, research and budgeting. Read this story
  3. Its an easy way to prevent sickness or even healing sickness. Try bone broth of veggie broth before any antibiotics or those immune booster.
  4. It is better to maintain, than healing or repair. Train your fitness now and everyday, so you don’t ever have to jump into a sudden high cost depressing diets.
  5. You will all be feeling better, happier, and your mood will eventually change into a better one.

SOCIAL MEDIA BREAK #1

So we have come to December. End of year…again. And it’s been one HIIT moment of 2017. Many things have change, happened, revolve. Evolve!

Work, Life, Family, Marriage,…LIFE! We learned so much and gain so much information from the media each day. And to some of us, or me, sometimes we let the things we saw, affecting our inner self. Is it me, or you feel the same?

We tense to compare our life with the things people share in their feed. Example, on Instagram. Birthday gifts, marriage, romantic getaway. Man, that is a lot. And without you realise it, we wasted minutes turned to hours just scrolling down on our search feed.

Basically did nothing!

This month i decided to do some break. Exactly a night before i wrote this. There comes  point when i feel like, its such a waste of time. Viewing people’s life or activities that basically, give nothing to my life. Except for the TASTY and Crafty and some Vegan Bloggers Account. Even so, i did not do anything in real life after following their posts. HA! What an idle hand could do right?

Today was easy. Monday 4th of December 2017.

I started with removing my IG app on my phone. Yes, i have another application installed on my IPAD. But since i need to connect to wifi with my IPAD, i’ll check them less.

Morning was all good, it went very easy. When normally, me and Haka would video moments and post it on my Insta Story. But this, nothing. Day time, noon, i kept my self busy grocery shopping while waiting for Haka to finish his Kumon. Not even think about Instagram at all. While on the evening, i somehow, feeling like i wanted to surf the online shops, still i did not opened it until i got home after work.

I opened my Instagram and check my DMs. Replied. Post one of my next thing to do which was, studying for the upcoming training. And thats all.

For day 1, i feel ok. I dont feel like i wanted to know or get an update on people’s life at all.

The purpose of this UNPLUG Moment are just

  1. Finding Inner Peace – in which i do not have to imagine or fantasise a kind of life that is not mine to have at all . You know….those romantic kind of actions and..( i sound jealous)
  2. COST SAVING! – ok…i must say, it is very much true. I could save lots of Bytes from my monthly quota.
  3. Battery Saving. I normally charged my phone twice. And guess what? I only charge it once, and its now, at night.

Chemicals to Avoid in Skin Care

These days, I am more concern on using natural products for daily basis use that contains less amount of chemicals. Although for me, and I think for most of us, it is quite hard to find a very natural product that really works repairing and maintaining our skin.

To my self personally, ever since I switched to Paraben – Silicone Free Botanical Products, i can claim my skin is moving on to a nice path. It is way moist, and clearer. I used to have lots of breakouts, and dark spots after it, but now its been months since I had that dark, dull skin look.

So I look and surf the net, trying to figure out, what exactly are the most dangerous chemicals in our skin care that we need to minimised or even completely avoiding it

Now, before you continue reading. I just want to remind you the main reason why i choose some products that are close to natural. Which Paraben and Silicone free. but still, some of it does contain SLS. So WHY?

Because, apparently, my skin has such bad reaction to drugstores products or i say Generic products that might contain these chemicals. And FYI, these chemicals have not proven to be the main cause of cancer. But just beware of your own skin reaction. That is the first thing to spot on.

Lookout for These 19 Ingredients
To protect your skin and keep it looking young, firm, and bright, look for these chemicals in all skin care products–and avoid them.

1. BHA/BHT
Used to lighten skin, BHA and BHT are considered by the National Toxicology Program as a likely carcinogen. In studies, animals exposed to these chemicals developed stomach cancer and liver damage, and developed complications with their thyroid and reproductive organs. Banned in Europe.

2. Sodium Borate / Boric Acid
These chemicals interfere with hormones and cause infertility in men. Regular exposure is linked to low sperm counts. It absorbs easily through the skin and is used in diaper creams. Banned in Europe and Canada, and the cosmetic industry states it’s unsafe for infants.

3. Coal Tar
You can find coal tar still used in hair dyes and dandruff and psoriasis shampoos. It’s recognized as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. On ingredient lists, it goes by aminophenol, diaminobenzene, and phenylenediamine.

4. Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives
Another known cancer causing agent, formaldehyde also harms the brain, interferes with growth and development in children, and induces asthma. These preservatives slowly release formaldehyde to keep the skin care product from spoiling. These often trigger allergic reactions on the skin. If you’ve ever experienced a contact allergy after using a skin lotion, it probably had one of these ingredients: DMDM Hydantoin (very common), diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, methenamine, and quaternium-15.

5. PEG Compounds
These go by many names like Propylene glycol, polyethylene glycols, or polyoxyethylene as they are petroleum-based compounds. But they go by other names too; If you see a word with “–eth” or “–oxynol” in it, it’s likely one of these PEGs. These chemicals can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a chemical the FDA says may cause cancer.[3]

6. Mercury
You know mercury is bad, but some cosmetics use it to lighten the skin. It absorbs easily through your skin and with enough use can develop into mercury poisoning. Steer clear of products with “calomel,” “mercurio,” “mercurio chloride,” or just plain old “mercury.”

7. Hydroquinone
Another skin lightener, it causes a skin disease called ochronosis that features black and blue lesions that can become permanent. In animals, studies have found enough exposure leads to tumor development.

8. Oxybenzone
Sunscreens use oxybenzone to absorb UV light. In humans, this chemical causes skin irritation and allergic reactions. Animal studies report it acts as an endocrine disruptor and interferes with hormone activity.

9. Triclosan
You’ll find this one in many antibacterial hand soaps and hand sanitizers. But it’s also used in deodorants, skin cleansers, and toothpaste. It’s another endocrine disruptor that harms your thyroid and reproductive hormones.

10. Parabens
You’ve probably seen a slew of products marketing themselves as “paraben-free.” These chemicals mimic estrogen and lead to hormone imbalance. Now, CDC reports suggest their presence in every American’s body. Whether they are or aren’t, avoid products with parabens to prevent reproductive issues like infertility or slowed growth and developmental disorders in children.

11. “Fragrance”
Also called perfume, these terms indicate a mixture of ingredients that cosmetic companies don’t have to legally tell you about. Three thousand or more chemicals may be used to create a fragrance. Some “Unscented” products contain fragrances with masking agents.[2] Some fragrances have been linked to allergic reactions, asthma, and breathing difficulties while others have links to cancers.

12. Phthalates
A common ingredient in “fragrances,” phthalates block testosterone and damage a man’s reproductive system. These dangerous chemicals have also been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.[4]

13. Petroleum distillates
Used in mascara, these ingredients come from oil refineries and often contain impurities linked to cancer.

14. Siloxanes
These, and similar ingredients labeled as “methicones,” soften and smooth skin. They also disrupt your hormones and interfere with fertility and libido.

15. Sodium Lauryl (Laureth) Sulfate
You’ll find this one in most shampoos, soaps, and cleansers. It may contain 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen, and ethylene oxide, a chemical known to harm your nervous system. The California EPA has even identified it as a possible developmental toxin.[5]

16. Toluene
Used in nail polish, toluene is also used in paint thinners. Research suggests it interferes with the human immune system and may be tied to the development of malignant lymphoma.

17. Retinol, or Retinyl Palmitate/Acetate
These vitamin A compounds are not safe for skin use. Sunlight breaks them down and creates free radicals that increase the risk of skin cancers. Avoid all skin and lip products with any of these vitamin A chemicals.

18. Fungicides
Used in dandruff shampoos, these ingredients wreak havoc when rinsed down the drain and into nature. Researchers report that one fungicide, climbazole, kills tiny organisms like algae and stops growth in larger plants and fish.[6]

19. Nanoparticles
Many cosmetics now use nanoparticles to deliver chemicals to the surface or even into the skin. Many of these products have not been evaluated for safety. Some are even used in sprays that make it possible for particulates to enter your lungs and blood stream.

Now,

with so many things being listed above. What do we do now?

First, we can always rely on naturals ingredients from what we use everyday in the kitchen. Ground coffee as scrub/exfoliator. Coffee is good as well to prevent wrinkles and heal marks. Himalayan Salt , Sugar, Coconut Oil, Olive Oils

Seek for the alternatives of these chemicals and I think through time we find ourself living the natural way.

I must say, i have not completely use natural ingredients. But I use Coconut Oil and Castile Soap – made of Vegetable Oil 99%, that is multifunction!

Hi, 

Im Britt. Base in Indonesia and a mother of Armando Haka who will be turning 7 this October.

In daily basis, I currently work at Gold’s Gym Indonesia. One of the biggest gym brand in the country. I actually graduated from Visual Design, but my passion for sports, fitness, led me to this job. 

And when it comes to Gym or Fitness Brand, the word trainer/coach/instructor might pop up. And yes, my main job is to teach a group fitness class. And i’ve been doing it for 11years. GX , GXM ,SGXM , Program Leader, Head Teacher…:) 

Yoga..Aerobic,LesMills Program, TRX and  much about it.

But not just that, I was actually in the Management Team and Development team as well. 

And I was blessed, being called and working for Les Mills Asia Pacific since 2009 to just recently step down as a Trainer and Presenter this August 2017. Working as a trainer, took me to places and experiences i’ve always dreamed about. But my son need me more now.

 And I did this so I can dedicate my day fully for my family and my work here in town. 

Ok, I think that should be enough eh..cause I think I should explain to you what do you expect in this blog?
Motherhood!

Man, as a mom, working mom, fulltime mom, this job requires us to be FIT. I mean really FIT. 

But how? 

Lots of mothers out there , dealing with different kind of situations. And many, yet im sure all of us sometimes jugglin but manage to get out of it. And because as a mom, who does it all..this life requires us to be FUNCTIONAL!

Chef, driver, party planner, doctor, nurse, lady boss, assistant, plumber, garderner, . Teacher,…can you tell me more???? Many…

To be able to do all of those (multi-ultra)tasks…we mothers..need to be

FIT. AGILE . And Functional.

I’d love to share how I squeeze workouts in between tasks, and how I still work on my plant based meals to help me cope with my immunity and deal with my food allergies.
